Whitaker-Stapleton Scholarship

Seniors - The Whitaker-Stapleton Scholarship application is now open.  This scholarship is worth $750 and will be awarded to a student who will be pursing a degree in Education or the Arts.  Applications are available in the guidance office and are due back to the guidance office by Wednesday, May 9th.

KY College Admissions Student Voice Project

Who can apply: Kentucky high school seniors who have committed (or are for sure going to commit) to one of these public 4-year Kentucky universities during their senior year AND plan to begin attending in Fall 2025. Kentucky public universities include Northern Kentucky University, University of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University, Morehead State University, University of Louisville, Murray State University, Kentucky State University, or Western Kentucky University.
What you will doYou will create written or video posts in an app on your phone or computer each month as you go through the college application and admissions experience. You will also be invited to participate in virtual workshops with other high school seniors in Kentucky to share your ideas on how the process could be improved in the future.
When the study happensThe study begins May 2025, and you will participate in monthly activities through August 2025.
What you get for participationYou will receive financial rewards in the form of gift cards (Amazon, Walmart etc) for each post each month (up to $50 per month). You will also receive a Plaud Note (or gift card in the equivalent value) for successful completion of all study activities.

KY College Admissions Student Voice Project

Ernie L. Scott Memorial Scholarship
This $2,250 scholarship will be awarded to one LCCHS Senior that plans to pursue a career in the healthcare field with the intent of working in rural, Eastern Kentucky upon college graduation. You must have a GPA of 2.75 or above and complete a one page essay.  Applications are available in the guidance office. They must be returned to the guidance office by May 16, 2025.

Cecil Hensley and Jim McAuley Memorial Scholarships

The Letcher County Conservation District is honored to offer educational scholarships to Letcher county college students each year. The Cecil Hensley and Jim McAuley Memorial Scholarships are awarded to individuals who are in agriculture, forestry, environmental biology, civil engineering, geology or related and similar fields. The award is for $1500 per semester and is renewable for up to eight semesters of college classes. The total award of $12,000 assure support for good students progressing toward a degree with a minimum of 2.5 GPA.
 
The office will be taking applications from now till June 1st. Applications are available in the guidance office. We have pledged to support up to 4 students concurrently.  Call the Conservation District at 633-4448.
 
HS Seniors and college students are encouraged to apply. Return to the Conservation District by June 1st. 

Letcher County Extension Homemakers Scholarship

The Letcher County Extension Homemakers will present one $500 scholarship to assist a local student with their college education.  Priority is given to those majoring in Family & Consumer Sciences, Agriculture or a member of the KEHA organization. Must be enrolled in or accepted by a college or apprenticeship, have a complete application with all paperwork and complete an essay. Applications are available in the guidance office and must returned to the address or email at the bottom of the application by May 8, 2025. 

Commonwealth Credit Union Scholarship
Commonwealth Credit Union is offering four $2,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are attending university, college, trade school, or a certification program in the fall. This scholarship celebrates students who are making a positive impact in their communities and aligns with our mission to better lives. With a minimum GPA of 2.0, we encourage all students who are committed to making a difference to apply.
To be eligible to apply for the Commonwealth Credit Union Scholarship students must be the primary on their Commonwealth Credit Union account by March 31, 2025. Applications are online and must be completed by March 31st.

Mountain Heritage Scholarship

The Mountain Heritage Scholarship is now available.  This $500 scholarship is based on GPA and financial need.  Applications are available in the guidance office and must me mailed to the address on the scholarship by April 28, 2025.

Trace Creek Construction Scholarship

Trace Creek Construction will be awarding $1,000 scholarships to deserving high school seniors. This one-time scholarship, aimed at supporting young adults seeking higher education through college or trade school, may be used for tuition, books, or fees incurred during the recipient’s first year of study. Students, please complete and return the scholarship application by 3:00pm on April 25th, 2025.  Apply at the link below.

Trace Creek Construction Scholarship

Letcher County Kentucky Farm Bureau Scholarship

Seniors, the Letcher County Kentucky Farm Bureau Scholarship is now available.  To be eligible you or your parent must be a member of the Letcher County Farm Bureau. Applicants are scored on the following criteria:  financial need, extracurricular activities, work history, academic performance, future goals and an essay. Applications are available in the guidance office and must be mailed or hand delivered to the address on the application no later than 4:00pm on April 30th. 

Whitesburg ARH Auxiliary Health Care Profession Scholarship

Seniors, the Whitesburg ARH Auxiliary Health Care Profession Scholarship is now available. This $500 scholarship is awarded to one senior with a GPA of 3.0 or above.  It requires a one page essay and recommendation with the application.  Applications are available in the guidance office and must be mailed to the address on the scholarship application by April 24, 2025.  

VFW Essay Scholarship

The VFW is sponsoring a $500 scholarship. In order to apply you must write a 500 word essay over the topic "How a Veteran Impacted My Life".  Essays must include a cover sheet with your name, phone number and the school you attend.  Essays can be dropped off at the Whitesburg VFW from 5pm-10pm and the deadline to turn in is March 31, 2025. .  

Cornett Scholarship

Cornett Scholarships will be giving 10 awards of $2500 each to students attending a college or technical school.  Applications  can be obtained from counselors. They must be returned by April 18, 2025 to the counselor's office

Cumberland Valley Electric Scholarship

Seniors who reside in the Cumberland Valley Electric's service area and whose parent or guardian are a member of Cumberland Valley Electric can now apply for the Cumberland Valley Electric Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one LCCHS student and is based on ACT scores, GPA, curriculum, financial need, extracurriculars, work and community activities.

Applications are available in the guidance office and must returned to the guidance office by April 18, 2025.

Jack Burkich Technical School Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship is available to seniors who will be enrolling full time at an accredited technical school.  The recipient will be chosen based on an essay, GPA, ACT, financial need and the application. Applications are available in the guidance office and must be mailed to: Tammy Couch at 941 N. Main Street, Hazard, KY 41701 by March 17, 2025.

Mayor Charles Long Scholarship 
This scholarship pays $500 a semester for up to 8 semesters.  Seniors planning to enroll full time in a college or university are eligible to apply.  The recipient will be chosen based on an essay, GPA, ACT, financial need and the application. Applications are available in the guidance office and must be mailed to: Tammy Couch at 941 N. Main Street, Hazard, KY 41701 by March 17, 2025.

Mission of Hope Scholarship
Good news seniors!  Due to our weather and being out of school for several days, the Mission of Hope Scholarship deadline has been pushed back till March 7th.  If you are intersted in this scholarship, complete it and return it to the guidance office by Thursday, March 6th.

James and Patricia Rice Memorial Scholarship

The James and Patricia Rice Memorial Scholarship was established
to honor a couple who lived an incredible life. They valued education, and they
wanted to give students from their community every opportunity to succeed. Two
$3000 scholarships will be awarded to a student from Bullitt Central and a
student from Letcher County Central. Well-rounded students who are active in
their community are encouraged to apply.

Bluegrass Indo-American Civic Society (BIACS) Scholarship:
BIACS is a non profit organization that was started in 1988. We awarded our first scholarship in 1989 and since then have awarded over $350,000 in scholarships. Last year we awarded multiple Merit and Need Based scholarships ranging from $1000 - $1500. BIACS Scholarship

Seniors intersted in engineering at UK, we received this message from the UK Pigman College of Engineering:

We have extended the deadline for our Need-Based scholarships for the University of Kentucky Pigman College of Engineering due to the extreme weather that has affected each corner of our state. As the scholarship application requires two letters of recommendation, many students have had issues getting those from their teachers as they have been out of school, without power, and dealing with greater issues as a result of the weather. The new deadline for the scholarship application is February 28th, next Friday at 11:59pm. The scholarship application can be found on the Scholarship Universe website, easily accessed from this link  https://uky.scholarshipuniverse.com/ . As a reminder, this website is a great resource for all students admitted to UK regardless of major as it matches students with every scholarship that UK has vetted, both through our university and external sites. Rotary Club Scholarship

The Rotary Club scholarship is now available.  This $500 scholarship is based on GPA,  financial need, 3 letters of recommendations and the application. Applications are available in the guidance office and must be mailed to the address on the application by Friday, April 11, 2025.  

Robert C Young Scholarship

This scholarship is for a senior who will be pursing a degree in the Arts, Drama or Music in college.  If you would like information about this scholarship, please see Mrs. Goins in the guidance office. 

Mission of Hope Trade Scholarship
This $3,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student with at least a 2.0 GPA who will be attending an accredited technical school to complete a certification or associates degree in one of the following fields of study in the fall. 
Automotive, Computer Aided/Information Technology, Construction, Electrical, HVAC, Industrial Machinery, Plumbing, Truck Driving, Welding.  You must complete the application at the link below and include a letter of recommendation and transcript.  Applications must be completed by March 10, 2025.  The password for this application page is: TRADEapp25

Mission of Hope Trade Scholarship

Mission of Hope Scholarship

This $3,000 scholarship will be awarded to one graduating senior at LCCHS.  This scholarship  will be based on several factors: recipient must have at least a 2.5 GPA, financial need, 2 letters of recommendation, ACT scores, and an essay.  Scholarship packets are available in the guidance office.  This is now due to the guidance office by Friday, March 7th.

Gavin Pre Sexton Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Gavin Sexton, his family has established a $1,000 scholarship to help a Letcher County Central Drama student with college expenses.  You must have participated in the Drama program at LCCHS and have a minimum 3.0 GPA to apply. You must write an essay about how Drama has had a positive impact on your life and prepared you for the future.  Applications must be returned to the guidance office by April 1, 2025. 

KMHI Manufactured Home Resident Scholarship

This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who lives in a modular or manufactured home and who will be enrolled in college, technical school or trade school. The application includes a 300 word essay on the impact factory-built housing has and on your life, a transcript and 3 letters of reference.  You must mail or email all part of the application to the address on the first page by April 1, 2025. Applications are in the guidance office.

KMHI Trade and Apprenticeship Student Scholarship 
This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to students who are currently attending or will be attending a technical center, trade school, or enrolling in an apprenticeship program centered around the construction industry.  You must complete a 300 word essay explaining why you want to enter the construction industry, and what you hope to obtain from your schooling and or training to prepare you to start your career, a copy of your transcript, and 3 letters of reference.  You must mail or email all parts of the application to the address on the first page by April 1, 2025.  Applications are in the guidance office.

Appalachian Wireless Scholarship

The Appalachian Wireless Scholarship is now open to seniors.  This one-time scholarship of $1,000 will be given to eight seniors, and the highest overall scoring recipient will receive a $2,000 scholarship.  Scholarships are based on:  financial need, academic performance, school and community involvement, personal essays and letters of recommendation. Completed applications must be mailed to the address on the application with a postmark of no later than March 7, 2025. Stephen L. Keller Scholarship

The Blue Grass Community Foundation is offering the Stephen L. Keller Scholarship for graduating high school seniors from Eastern Kentucky who have an interest in pursuing business as a major.

Georgetown College Tiger Preview Day
Tiger Preview Day is on February 7th. Registration closes this Friday, January 31st – if you are interested in Georgetown College don’t miss out on the chance to get registered for this event.
 
Our Tiger Preview Days give students the opportunity to:

The KEDC scholarship is now open.  This $2,500 scholarship is open to students planning got attend a 4 year college, technical or vocational program.  The scholarship is awarded based on the following criteria:  GPA of 3.0 or above, ACT score, an essay, and financial need.  You may find the application in the guidance office or online at the link below. The Kentucky 2A State Championships Scholarship

The Kentucky 2A State Championships Scholarship is now open to any senior athlete at LCCHS.  They will award eight $500.00 and two $1,000 scholarships to student athletes attending a post-secondary institution in KY as a full-time student.  The application requires two letters of recommendation, transcript, short essay on how sports has impacted your life.  Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2025 to the address listed on the application.  

This is  a paper application, it will be available in the guidance office. 

"I Am Unite" Scholarship
The "I Am Unite" Scholarship is now open for the 2024-25 school year.  These $1,500 need-based scholarships will be provided to a minimum of 20 high school seniors from the 43 county UNITE service region.  Eligible seniors must be a current or former member of a school-based UNITE Club or have attended Camp UNITE as either a camper or Team Mentor. The scholarship applications must be returned no later than Friday, March 14, 2025. Winners will be determined by the following:  Completed application form,  Past or current involvement in a UNITE Club or Camp UNITE, essay explaining how the student has benefitted from involvement with UNITE, 2.75 unweighted GPA, volunteer work, two letters of recommendation, copy of unofficial transcript.

James and Wanda Reynolds Higher Education Award

The James and Wanda Reynolds Higher Education Award scholarship is available to students with an unweighted GPA of 2.5 or greater. Applicants should have at least a 2.5 unweighted high school GPA, demonstrate financial need, and have the strength of character which includes integrity, courage, generosity of spirit, compassion, respect of human dignity, commitment to community, and a sense of purpose and vision. This is a $2,000/year scholarship which may be renewable for up to 4 years of undergraduate study so long as the student remains full-time, is in good standing with their institution, and maintains at least a 2.0 GPA.

Donate Life Scholarship

The Donate Life Scholarship is open to students who are passionate about helping others and advocating for the lifesaving mission of donation.  Students can submit projects in various forms such as:  Writing and sharing a song or video about donation on social media, crafting a persuasive speech for their school about the importance of registering as a donor or designing a cafeteria display to educate peers about donation and transplantation facts.  This scholarship doesn't require a high GPA or extensive extracurricular involvement.  Application deadline is April 7, 2025. I'm In! College Acceptance Video Challenge
 
The I’m In! College Acceptance Video Challenge, is a fantastic opportunity for Kentucky high school seniors to celebrate and receive recognition for their hard work – as well as have the chance to win a $1,000 scholarship to any in-state postsecondary institution.

Here is an overview of the I’m In! College Acceptance Video Challenge:

  • Members of the Kentucky high school class of 2025 are being challenged to record and submit videos of their reactions to reading college acceptance notifications.

  • Note: College = all post-high school education, including short-term, career-ready certification programs; trade schools; 2-year colleges; and 4-year colleges and universities

  • All appropriate videos that are submitted will be featured on GEAR UP Kentucky social media platforms. (Appropriate videos are ones that feature clean language and individuals dressed in clothing that meets high school dress code requirements.)

  • A select number of submitted videos will be featured in a statewide TV commercial.

  • A live, virtual drawing will be done among the students whose videos are selected for the commercial. One student’s name will be selected to win a $1,000 scholarship to any in-state postsecondary institution.

Mike Harris Scholarship

The Mike Harris Scholarship is now open. There will be one $10,000 college scholarship awarded to a male or female student athlete graduating from Letcher County Central High School in spring 2025. Requirements to apply:  Must be part of the Letcher County Central High School Class of 2025. Must have participated in at least one school affiliated sport during senior year.  Copies are available in the Guidance Office or you may click the link below.  Applications are due by March 11, 2025.   Mail application to Mike Harris Memorial Scholarship, P.O. KASBO Scholarship

Seniors, the KASBO scholarship is open.  The KASBO will be awarding 4 - $2,500 scholarships to KY graduating seniors who will major in business or education.  Applicants must obtain two letters of recommendation, one from the school and one from the community or church.  Finalists will be contacted to schedule a virtual interview.  All application components must be received by Dec. 15, 2024.  To apply follow the link below.

Kentucky Transportation Department Scholarships

Seniors: The Kentucky Transportation Department is offering scholarships in Civil Engineering, Construction Management and Civil Engineering Technology.  Students must have a minimum ACT score of 24.  If students are selected, they must agree by contract to work full-time for the Cabinet immediately after graduation, one year for every school year they received the scholarship. The application can be found at this link as well as in the guidance office and must be submitted by February 1, to the address on the application. 

KY Transportation Department Scholarships

Double Kwik Fueling the Future Scholarship
Seniors, Double Kwik is now accepting applications for their Fueling the Future Scholarship worth $500.  Fill out the application and send it in to the address listed on the bottom of the last page.  The deadline is March 11, 2025 and you must send a transcript and photograph.  We will have copies available in the guidance office.

Berea College "Get-Acquainted" tours

The Berea College Director of Admissions is offering "get-acquainted" tours for prospective applicants from Letcher County, and a fund has been set up to make these tours expense-free.  The tour trips will be for one parent and one student, and will generally consist of one night and one day in Berea.  The tentative plan is to leave for Berea in the afternoon after school, spend the night in Berea, tour the college the next day, and then return to Letcher County.  The tours will provide a good introduction to the campus, and nursing students may be particularly interested in the state-of-the-art Science Building.  Berea College, which charges no tuition, has recently been rated the number one liberal arts college in the nation by Washington Monthly.  Additional information and visit applications may be obtained at the link below.

Early FASFA completion for Seniors:

KHEAA has been given the opportunity to offer the FAFSA early to approximately 300 students on October 16th and 17th in Frankfort.  If you are interested, please fill out this interest form.  In order to participate, you will need to set up your student aid account.  Parents are also encouraged to attend, and will also need accounts.

Kentucky Federation of Republican Women Scholarship

The Kentucky Federation of Republican Women grants a $1,500 scholarship to a college-bound high school senior girl who has been politically active within the republican Party. The qualified applicant will graduate from a KY high school in 2025, is or will be a registered Republican, and plans to enroll at an accredited college or university in Kentucky. The application will include:  completed application form, one-page typed essay about a Republican woman you admire or who has influenced you life and why, an official copy of your high school transcript, which may be mailed separately (see a guidance counselor), and two letters of recommendation. 
The completed application and all documents must be mailed with a postmark no later than Monday, March 31, 2025 to the address on the application.

Kentucky Concrete Association Scholarship
The Kentucky Concrete Association is now accepting essay submissions for its annual $2,000 William T. Robertson High School Essay Scholarship.  The scholarship rules are:  Must be a current senior, essay must address the essay prompt directly, must be written by a single student, the use of AI is not permitted for the creation or completion of the essay. 
Essay must be received by November 23, 2024 and are limited to 600 words. Paper copies of the QR code are available in the guidance office or you can visit the link below.

KY Concrete Association Scholarship

Transcripts
Many of you have started your college/trade school applications and will be requesting your transcript be sent to your schools.  There are two ways you can do this:  
1.  Come to the guidance office and fill out a form with Mrs. Michelle Craft and she will email and mail a copy to your schools of choice.
2.  Set up a Parchment account and you will be free to send those to your schools any time.  I have added the link to Parchment below.  
*Remember:  If you are taking Dual Credit through Southeast or EKU, those classes do NOT show up on our transcripts, you will need to contact the college to send any of those classes when you finish. Typically, students don't send those till the end of their senior year, but some schools may ask for them beforehand.

Governor's School for the Arts

GSA is looking for current Kentucky high school sophomores and juniors with skill in their artform, passion for creativity, an open mind, collaborative spirit, and an eagerness for learning. Students who are intersted will need to register for and attend one of the webinars, these can be found at the link below. The application portal opens October 4th and applications are due by January 12th, 2025.

Governor's Scholar Program
Juniors, the Governor's Scholar Program is now open for applicants.  The application is extensive, so it is best to begin it as soon as possible if you are intersted.  You must have taken the ACT to apply, so if you are intersted be sure to get online at ACT.org and register to test on a Saturday. All applications are due to the Guidance office by 10:00am December 16th.  We will be pulling intersted students to the auditorium soon to discuss the program and application process.

WYMT Scholarships

Seniors!  We have several scholarships available from WYMT that are due back very soon.  These are paper copies, so stop by the guidance office to pick them up if you are interested. We received these after school yesterday and they are all DUE BACK TO US BY SEPTEMBER 18th!  STUDENTS, WE WILL NEED THESE BY 8:45 am on this morning....They must be mailed.

-WYMT Food City Mountain Classic Scholarship - This is based on academics and financial need.  Proof of financial need is required.  A copy of parents W-2 and the 1st page of Form 1040 must be included.

-Ralph Gabbard Memorial Scholarship - This is based on interest in the pursuit of a broadcast career, talent, and academics. 

-Tony Turner Memorial Scholarship - based on interest in the pursuit of a broadcast career, talent, and academics.

The last one is not a scholarship, but is recognition on WYMT.  
-ARH Mountain Student Achiever - two students are announced weekly so get those in quickly! Students must have a 3.7 GPA or higher.  A photograph (no larger than wallet size) must accompany the form.  DO NOT staple photos.  You will include your extracurricular activities and community service.  Winners are based on their GPA, extracurricular activities and community service.

The Voice of Democracy Scholarship

The Voice of Democracy Scholarship through the VFW is now open.  There are many award levels for this scholarship nationally, from $1500 to $35,000 for the top scholarship. To enter you will record your original 3-5 minute audio essay on a flash dive or other electronic device. The essay topic is "Is America Today Our Forefathers' Vision?".  Entries must be turned in to the guidance office by Monday, October 28th so we can be sure those are to the VFW by the due date.  Paper copies of the scholarship with all the rules and criteria are available in the guidance office.  

BBB Trust Scholarship

Seniors!  We have a new scholarship available for students planning to major in Education AND return to Letcher County to teach.  These are due back on Thursday, May 16th to the guidance office.  Stop by and pick one up.  This application is not long, so you still have plenty of time!

Letcher County Teacher's Organization Scholarships

The Letcher County Teacher's Organization Scholarships are now available.  These are due back on May 15, 2024! These scholarship are available to students who have been an active LCTO member for at least three previous years or a retired LCTO member in good standing.  The Jack and Ruby Burkich Scholarship is available to students pursuing a degree in any field of study and the Jon Henrikson Past Presidents' Scholarship is available to students pursuing a degree in the field of education. Scholarships were emailed to all Letcher County Employees and copies are also available in the guidance office.

KHEAA Work Ready KY Scholarship

Seniors, the KHEAA Work Ready KY Scholarship is now open.  Log on to your myKHEAA account today and complete the application.

Jeff B. & Hettie C. Mayes Scholarship

Seniors, we have a new scholarship - The Jeff B. & Hettie C. Mayes Scholarship is worth $1,000 and is due back to the Guidance office by May 13th, so hurry!  This scholarship requires a 3.0 minimum GPA and a 20 minimum ACT score as well as a letter that answers "What contribution can I make to Eastern Kentucky?".  We have copies in the guidance office.

Hicks & Funfsinn Law Office Scholarship

Seniors, the Hicks & Funfsinn Law Office Scholarship is now available in the guidance office.  This scholarship requires an essay.  It must be returned to the guidance office by May 13, 2024.

Carl D Perkins Grant & Stratton Tipton Scholarships

Seniors interested in pursing CTE coursework at a postsecondary institution in Kentucky, the Carl D. Perkins Grant worth $500 and the Stratton Tipton Scholarships worth $500 are now available.

Letcher County Extension Homemakers Scholarship

Seniors:  The Letcher County Extension Homemakers Scholarship is now available in the Guidance office. 

This is $500 scholarship, you must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and enclose an acceptance leter from a college or accredited apprenticeship such as electrician, plumbing, HVAC etc.. You must attach a transcript, an essay, a biographical sketch of your community &/or club involvement with a  paragraph about your future plans.  This must be submitted to the Letcher County Cooperative Extension Service at the address on the instructions.  

Must be submitted by May 3, 2024. 

Ernie L. Scott Memorial Scholarship

Seniors interested in Healthcare, we have a new scholarship.  The Ernie L. Scott Memorial Scholarship is available to pick up in the Guidance Office.  This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving Eastern Kentucky high school senior so plans to pursue a Health Care Career with the intent to practice in rural Eastern Kentucky.  This scholarship is worth $2,000. Must have at least a 2.75 GPA.  Please stop by the Guidance office for a copy of the scholarship.  Due May 10, 2024. 

Redbuds Are Not Red Scholarship

Seniors, the Redbuds Are Not Red Scholarship is now open. Applicants must be a high school senior and live in Letcher County or have lived in Letcher County within the last 12 months. Homeschool students are welcome. To qualify, you do not need to meet a minimum Grade Point Average or other specific achievement. Please use the application to explain who you are, and how the scholarship would be part of your plan for the future. The application link is below, this must be completed by April 19th, 2024.

Trace Creek Construction Scholarship

Seniors, the Trace Creek Construction Scholarship is now available in the Guidance office.  This scholarship is worth $1,000, the application must be returned to the Guidance office by 3:00pm on May 3, 2024.  

Karen L. Hall Memorial Scholarship

Karen L. Hall Memorial Scholarship Applications are now available in the Guidance office.  This scholarship is for seniors currently enrolled in the Letcher County Area Technology Center and must have been a member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) for a minimum of two years.  Applications are available in the guidance office and must be submitted to Mrs. Combs as instructed on the last page of the application by May 10th. 

Cornett Scholarships

Seniors, we have new scholarships available in the guidance office, the Cornett Scholarships.  Each Cornett Scholarship awarded will be worth $2,500.  You must hurry, applications are due back to the guidance office by April 22, 2024.

Kentucky Manufactured Housing Institute Scholarship

The Kentucky Manufactured Housing Institute Scholarship is now open. There are two different scholarships you may qualify for:

Five (5) $1,000 scholarships are aimed at individuals enrolled in technical centers, trade schools, or apprenticeship programs within the construction industry.
Two (2) $1,000 scholarships are aimed at graduating high school seniors, GED recipients, or current college or technical school students residing in modular, manufactured, or mobile homes.

Application submissions must be postmarked by April 15, 2024

Whitaker-Stapleton Scholarship

Seniors - The Whitaker-Stapleton Scholarship application is now open.  This scholarship is worth $750 and will be awarded to a student who will be pursing a degree in Education or the Arts.  Applications are available in the guidance office and are due back to the guidance office by Friday, April 26th.

Jackson Propane Plus Scholarship

Seniors: The Jackson Propane Plus Scholarship is now open.  This $500 scholarship is for a student in the Jackson Propane area with preference given to a child/grandchild of a Jackson Propane customer.  Preference is also given to a student who is enrolling in a trade program.  The application requires a transcript, letter of recommendation and essay.  You must email the application to the address on the final page, feel free to come to the counseling office for help with this. Applications are available in the guidance office and are due April 15, 2024.

Mountain Heritage Scholarship

Seniors, the 2024 Mountain Heritage  Scholarship Application is now available in the guidance office.  

This $500.00 Scholarship is available to Letcher County High School Seniors, College Students, Vocational/Technical School Students, as well as adults who may be returning to upper-level courses as first time students, and adults seeking additional education coursework for a career transition.

Applications are in the guidance office and must be mailed with a photograph to the Mountain Heritage Scholarship Committee by April 27th, 2024. 

James and Patricia Rice Memorial Scholarship

Seniors, we have a new scholarship opportunity available.  The James & Patricia Rice Memorial Scholarship.  It is a $3,000.00 scholarship that will be given to one (1) student from Letcher County Central High School in memory of Patricia (Goins) Rice who graduated from Whitesburg High School in 1966 and was Miss Yellowjacket. Seniors, the Link Crew Leader Scholarship is now open.   This $500 scholarship is open to all graduating senior Link Leaders who have completed at least one year of service as a Link Leader. You must complete the application and submit a letter of recommendation from Link Crew Coordinator.  Applications are due by April 1, 2024.

Seniors, I have attached a link to the KY Goes to College FAFSA Completion Scholarship. This scholarship is available for any student who has successfully completed the 24’25’ FAFSA and the award amount is $500. However, students need to apply for it!

Whitesburg ARH Auxiliary Health Care Profession Scholarship

Seniors, the Whitesburg ARH Auxiliary Health Care Profession Scholarship is now open.  This $500 scholarship is awarded to a student who plans to further their education in a health care profession at an accredited institution/program.  We have copies in the guidance office.  The deadline is April 15, 2024. 

Mission of Hope Scholarship

Seniors, the Mission of Hope Scholarship is now available.  This is a $3,000 with priority given to applicants who are planning to attend a technical/vocational school or two-year community college.  However, students wanting to start at a four year college will still be considered.  We have copies available in the guidance office.  These are due back to the guidance office no later than Friday, February 22, 2024.

Letcher County Farm Bureau Scholarship

Seniors: The Letcher County Farm Bureau Scholarship Applications are now available in the guidance office.  All applications must be mailed or delivered to Farm Bureau office at Dry Fork no later than 4:00pm, April 30th.

Rotary Club Scholarship

Seniors:  The Rotary Club Scholarship is now available.  The application and all required attachments must be mailed to the address on the last page and postmarked no later than Friday, April 5, 2024.

Cumberland Valley Electric Scholarship

The Cumberland Valley Electric Scholarship is now open for students whose parent or guardian is a member of Cumberland Valley Electric and live in their service area.  This scholarship is worth $1,000 and is due to the guidance office no later than Friday, March 22, 2024.  Applications are available in the guidance office.

KEDC Scholarship

The KEDC (Kentucky Educational Development Corporation) Scholarship is now open and the deadline is April 1, 2024.  Copies are available in the Guidance Office.  

Appalachian Wireless Scholarship

Seniors, the Appalachian Wireless Scholarship is now open for students who are customers or whose parent/guardian has been a customer of Appalachian Wireless for at least the past 12 moths.  This scholarship is $1,000 for higher education cost.  Application deadline is March 6, 2023.

2A State Championship Scholarship

Senior Golf, Volleyball and Baseball players:  The 2A State Championship Scholarship Application is open for participants at LCCHS in these sports.  This is a $500 scholarship due March 1. We will have copies in the Guidance Office if you are interested.  

Dr. Tae-Joon Memorial Scholarship

Seniors intersted in Radiology: The Dr. Tae-Joon memorial scholarship. The scholarship is open to students in southeast KY in their final year of high school who have been accepted to a technology school, and to students who are currently enrolled in a technology school and are seeking financial assistance in completing this training. Each awardee is eligible for $1000 toward tuition. The student must maintain a GPA of 3.0. One new student will be selected each year for the scholarship. I Am UNITE Scholarship

The "I Am UNITE Scholarship" for seniors is now open. This scholarship provides high school seniors with $1,500 to be used for post-secondary education expenses.

To be eligible for an “I Am UNITE” Scholarship, high school seniors must:

  • Complete and sign an application and return by March 15, 2024.

  • Be a member of their school’s UNITE Club; have attended Camp UNITE as a camper, Junior Team Leader, or Team Leader; and/or who have been directly impacted by substance misuse or that of a family member.

  • Attend school within UNITE’s 33-county service region.

  • Submit a typed Essay of 500 words or less detailing how they exemplify the theme “I Am UNITE.”

  • Have a GPA of 2.75 unweighted, or 3.75 weighted.

  • Provide two letters of recommendation (one from a school employee and one from a community member).

  • Provide a copy of their unofficial high school transcript.

Seniors, the Kentucky Farm Bureau Statewide Scholarships are now open for applications.  This application is different than the one that will open later that is for Letcher County students.  Students must be the child of a Kentucky Farm Bureau member to apply.  The due date for this scholarship is February 29, 2024.  To learn more and apply click the link below.

Stephen L. Keller Business Scholarship

Seniors, if you are interested in pursing business as a major, please check into the Stephen L. Keller Scholarship through the Blue Grass Community Foundation.  This is only for students in Eastern Kentucky and is a need based scholarship with an award of $2,000 renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study.  The deadline is March 4, 2024.  If you are interested, please visit the website to find the application and more information.

Cardinal Commitment Grant

The University of Louisville has notified us about the Cardinal Commitment Grant for Kentucky residents and first-time freshmen accepted to UofL. Students meeting these criteria that receive a Pell Grant on their FASFA will have 100% of their tuition covered.  For more information and full eligibility criteria visit the website.

Seniors, the Hagan Scholarship is now open.  This need based scholarship provides up to $7,500 each semester for up to 8 semesters.  To apply you must have a 3.5 grade point average and your Adjusted Gross Household Income for 2022 must not exceed $85,000.  If you are interested we have brochures in the guidance office or you can visit the website for the application and additional information.

Mike Harris Memorial Scholarship

Seniors, we have received the Mike Harris Memorial Scholarship applications.  Requirements to apply:  Be a member of the LCCHS Class of 2024, must have participated in at least one school affiliated sport during senior year, must serve the community in some capacity, must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.  Applications are available in the guidance office and must be turned in by March 29, 2024. This $10,000 scholarship is awarded to one student.

Seniors!  Double Kwik is now accepting applications for their Fueling the Future Scholarship worth $500.  Fill out the application and send it in to the address listed on the bottom of the last page.  The deadline is March 29, 2024 and you must send a transcript and photograph. We will have copies available in the guidance office, so stop by and pick one up.   

Kentucky Federation of Republican Women Scholarship

Senior girls, the Kentucky Federation of Republican Women is granting a $1,500 scholarship to a college-bound high school senior girl who has been politically active within the Republican Party.  The qualified applicant will graduate from a Kentucky high school in 2024, is or will be a registered Republican, and plans to enroll at an accredited college or university in Kentucky.  You must complete an application form, type a one-page essay about the a Republican woman you admire or who has influenced your life and why, an official transcript and two letters of recommendation. The application isdue by April 3, 2024. If you are interested, stop by the guidance office for an application. 

KHEAA FSA ID Workshop

Seniors, we have another opportunity for you and your parents to complete your FSA ID so you will be ready to file your FASFA as soon as it opens. KHEAA will be at LCC on Monday, Nov 20th from 5:30 - 7:00 in the cafeteria. They will be assisting with setting up your FSA ID. Snacks will be provided!

Sending a Transcript

Seniors, many of you have already started sending transcripts to colleges and trade schools, so we wanted to let you know there are two ways you can do this.

  1. You can visit the guidance office and fill out a form. Mrs. Michelle Craft will then send your transcript to the college.

  2. You can set up a Parchment account and send your transcript any time. There are quite a few questions to be answered at first to send this way, but once they are completed and you have an account you can send them any time and get verification when it has been received. To set up an account visit Parchment.com (Parchment) , click Order Now, type Letcher County Central in the box and then New Learner Account.

Seniors, Keisha Hunt-Eary will be visiting with us on November 28, 2023.  She will be instructing on FAFSA information so you will be ready to file in December.  We will pull English 4 classes to the auditorium on this day.  
We will share more information as the date approaches, but wanted to let you know that she will be coming.
Parents will have the opportunity to attend in the evening to prepare for the December date.
FAFSA (Financial Aid) is often used by universities/technical schools to decide who receives grants and
scholarships, so it important that EVERY SENIOR fill out their FAFSA.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Civil Engineering and Construction Management Scholarships

Seniors who are interested civil engineering or construction management, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is interested in you! They offer scholarship opportunities to students who are interested in pursuing Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology & Construction Management.
Applications may now be submitted for the upcoming 2024-2025 year.  Students who are chosen for the Civil Engineering or Construction Management program can receive up to $59,200* (before taxes) and those chosen for Civil Engineering Technology can receive up to $14,800* (before taxes).  We also provide summer employment & full-time employment after graduation.  (*depending on the # of years in school)

University of Kentucky Athletic Training Student Aide Program

Seniors, we just received an exciting opportunity from the University of Kentucky for those of you  who are planning to attend the University of Kentucky next year and interested in healthcare. UK is recruiting high school seniors that are interested in a career in health care and will be attending the University of Kentucky next fall. They have an athletic training student aide program that is a great opportunity to get some experience in health care with some scholarship opportunities. If you are interested, please come see us in the guidance office for the information, the application deadline is December 1st, 2023.

Seniors - KASBO will be awarding (4) $2,500 scholarships to Kentucky high school graduating seniors who will major in business or education. All applicants must obtain two (2) letters of recommendation.  One recommendation must be school-related, and one recommendation must be either community-related or church-related.  Letters of recommendation must be submitted through the link provided on the webpage.  Also, you will find a link to share with high school counselors to verify the applicant’s enrollment and transcript information. Finalists will be contacted to schedule an interview.  Interviews are conducted virtually.  

The application and letters of recommendation must be received by December 15, 2023.   
Scholarship recipients will be selected and notified no later than March 31, 2024.

Governor's School for the Arts (GSA) applications are now open.  This opportunity is for current Sophomores and Juniors and is a 3 week summer program on the campus of University of Kentucky that focuses on these art forms:  Dance, Design, Creative Writing, Film & Photography, Drama, Instrumental Music, Musical Theatre, Visual Art and Vocal Music. The application fee is $35 for one art form with an additional $15 for the 2nd, but can be waived if you qualify for free or reduced lunch.  If you are interested, visit the website, watch the very informative webinars, read the application guide for your art form and start gathering the materials you will need to apply.  You may also want to speak with Ms. Boyd in room 2054, she is our resident GSA expert!

Donate Life Scholarship - Seniors, we have just received information about a new scholarship opportunity from Donate Life.  By expressing your passion for organ donation and transplantation in any way that inspires you and motivates others.  There is no GPA requirement, no extracurricular activities are required, you must answer 3 short answer questions in the application and upload 2 verifications of our outreach activities encouraging others to save lives through organ donation and transplantation.  This can be photographs, links, screenshots, social media posts, public speaking, TikTok, posters etc. Follow the link to the Google Form if you are interested.

WYMT/ARH Mountain Student Achiever - Two students are announced weekly so get those in quickly! Students must have a 3.7 GPA or higher.  A photograph (no larger than wallet size) must accompany the form.  DO NOT staple photos.  You will include your extracurricular activities and community service.  Winners are based on their GPA, extracurricular activities and community service. This is NOT a scholarship, but it recognition for all your hard work!
