The Letcher County Schools will be closed for Thursday, March 6, 2025 due to icy road conditions.

Bus 2322, Mike Strand, and Bus 815, Beth Terry, will be late this morning, Wednesday, March 5th, due to debris and road conditions.

The Letcher County Schools will operate on a regular schedule for Wednesday, February 26th. Unfortunately, there are several roads that we can’t travel with buses and ask that our parents work with us to meet the buses at a central location. We will continue to work with our city, county, and state officials on needed repairs. As roads are repaired, we will return to our regular routes. Free meals will be served at West Whitesburg Elementary for children ages 1-18 on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 11:30 am to 1:30 PM.

The Letcher County Schools will be closed on Monday, February 24, 2025. Now that most of the snow is gone, we can better assess road conditions to ensure bus routes are safe. We will continue to work with county and state officials to get our students back to school as soon as possible.

Meals will be available for pick up today at West Whitesburg Elementary from 11:30AM till 1:30 PM for children ages 1-18 years old.

The Letcher County Schools will be serving free meals for children ages 1 to 18 at West Whitesburg Elementary on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Due to road conditions and the weather forecast, Letcher County Schools will be closed Tuesday, February 18, and Wednesday, February 19, 2025. We will reassess on Wednesday and keep you posted. Once again, we ask that families with students that live in Blair Branch, Racetrack Hollow, and Goose Creek meet the bus at the same locations they did today, both morning and evening. Letcher County Schools will operate on a one-hour delay on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. However, there are a couple roads that are still icy and not safe for our buses. We ask that if you live in the areas listed below, that you meet the bus at a central location. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope that we can operate normally soon. We want to get our kids back to school and do that as safely as possible. We appreciate our county road department for working with us, our transportation department for their hard work, and our families for understanding. If you live in Racetrack hollow, you will meet the bus at the actual race track. Students in Blair Branch will meet the bus at the Blair Branch church.

We are working diligently to get our students back to school. We had hoped the warmer temperatures the last few days would be enough, unfortunately, many side roads and bus turns are still icy. We are working with the county to clear as many areas as possible and will continue to do so. We appreciate your patience as we work to get back to school. We miss our students and are looking forward to having them return. However, their safety is our top priority.
