
On Thursday, December 7, our entire school will be traveling to the Forum in Hazard, KY to watch a performance of "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" presented by the Appalachian Arts Alliance.
Buses have to depart school by 8:00 am the latest on Thursday, so it is important that your child arrives to school on time. Students that arrive at 8:00 or later will miss the trip.
Students will also be bringing home a permission slip that must be signed and returned for them to be able to attend. Please make sure your child brings that back to school, preferably tomorrow.
We are thankful to Partners for Rural Impact for making this trip possible for our students!

Santa's Workshop will be open at Martha Jane Potter next week, December 4th through 8th. Students will have the opportunity to shop for gifts for their family and friends. Gift prices range from $0.25 - $15. This is an optional activity and a fundraiser for our PTO.


Compassion in a Box is giving away Thanksgiving food boxes at Neon First Church of God right now. There are still 75 boxes left if you would like to come and pick one up.

Martha Jane Potter will host a Veterans Day Program on Friday, November 10 at 1:00 pm in our gym. All veterans are invited to attend. There will be a special program recognizing our veterans, with our students sharing performances and readings. There will also be a free lunch for veterans before the program beginning at 12:25 pm. Please call the school at 606-855-7544 if you plan to attend. We look forward to honoring our veterans for their service!


Tomorrow will be "tacky tourist" dress at MJP if your child wants to participate.
Also, all our students will be traveling to LCCHS to see Cowan's production of "The Little Mermaid" at noon tomorrow.

Tomorrow (11/1) will be Wellness Wednesday as we continue our "Good Choices Week."
Students are welcome to dress in workout attire if they want and we will have a nutritionist coming to talk with students about making good choices to keep their bodies healthy.

If you are signed up to set up and give out candy, you may arrive at 9:30 am in our main parking lot to begin setting up. The kids will begin coming around at 10:30 am.
The weather forecast does call for cool temperatures so you may want to make sure your child dresses warm or brings a jacket or coat with their costume.

K-2 will be from 5:00-7:00.
3-5 will be from 7:00-9:00.
There will be a costume contest and concessions for sale.

The first practice and parent meeting will be Thursday (10/19) at 4:30 pm at the FNMS football field.

Reminder--there is no school tomorrow (Monday, Oct. 16). This is a teacher professional development day. School will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 17.

Martha Jane Potter Elementary will host our fall book fair this week (October 2-6). If you'd like to send money with your student, they'll have the opportunity each day to purchase books from our Scholastic Book Fair.

Tomorrow will be the first day of school for all students in Letcher County Public Schools with the exception of West Whitesburg Elementary and Whitesburg Middle School.
We have all been anxiously awaiting the opening of West Whitesburg Elementary School, and it is looking great. However, we want to put the finishing touches on the space and have decided to push the start date for WWE and WMS until Wednesday, August 16.
We appreciate your patience with us as we make final preparations to welcome back our Yellow Jackets.
All other Letcher County Schools will start tomorrow, Monday, August 14 at the regular start time. We hope you have a great 1st day of school!!
