West Whitesburg Elementary School will be having awards day at the WMS gym on Tuesday, May 27th. Kindergarten- 2nd grade will be at 8:30 am and 3rd - 5th grades will be at 1:00 pm.
The Whitesburg Drama Club production of Madagascar has been canceled for this evening. It is rescheduled for tomorrow evening at 6:30PM.
There will be a lemonade stand set up at West Whitesburg Elementary School tomorrow. Lemonades will be $5 each.
State testing begins tomorrow morning for grades 3rd - 5th. Please make sure to have your student to school by 7:50. Students will also need their chromebooks fully charged.
West Whitesburg Elementary will be having an awards ceremony on Monday, May 5th at 9:15 AM in the West Whitesburg gymnasium/cafeteria. Awards will be given out to current 4th and 5th grade students who scored proficient or distinguished during last year's state testing. We would like to invite parents and families of current 4th and 5th grade students to attend the program.
We are excited to inform you that Letcher County Public Schools will be offering an enrichment camp this summer at West Whitesburg Elementary for students who are currently enrolled in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. The camp will run from June 2-June 13, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily. The enrollment form is on the Letcher County Public Schools Facebook page, however, if you don’t have access to Facebook, you can call your child’s school or Central Office and someone will assist you in filling out the form.
West Whitesburg Elementary School will be hosting a kickoff to testing family night on Wednesday, April 30th from 5 - 7 pm. We will have inflatables, food, and games. Students may also wear their favorites sports shirt or jersey to school to tomorrow, April 30th.

Unfortunately, there are several roads that we can’t travel with buses and ask that our parents work with us to meet the buses at a central location. We will continue to work with our city, county, and state officials on needed repairs. As roads are repaired, we will return to our regular routes. Free meals will be served at West Whitesburg Elementary for children ages 1-18 on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 11:30 am to 1:30 PM.
The Letcher County Schools will be closed on Monday, February 24, 2025. Now that most of the snow is gone, we can better assess road conditions to ensure bus routes are safe. We will continue to work with county and state officials to get our students back to school as soon as possible.
