Parents of Kindergarten, 6th, and 11th grade students, please make sure your child’s required immunization record has been updated as required by 702 KAR 1:160. If your child has completed their required immunizations, please send the completed and updated documents to your child’s school. If not, schedule an appointment as soon as you can with your child’s healthcare provider. Our school district depends on these records to be sure your child is immunized to protect the health and wellbeing of all the children in the classroom. Thank you for your cooperation and support. The Letcher County Schools will operate on a one hour delay for Tuesday, October 1, 2024 to allow bus drivers to have better visibility of any remaining debris on or near the roadway.
The Letcher County Schools will be closed on Monday, September 30. We still have many families without power and roads covered in debris from the storms. We want to thank all those working to get the electricity restored and roads cleared.

Bus #2022 in the Premium, Dry Fork area, will be running 20-25 minutes late this morning due to mechanical issues.
Parents and Community: After a call from Kentucky State Police, LCC was ordered to go into a mandatory lockdown because of an active shooting in downtown. Your children are safe. The shooter has been apprehended, but KSP has not released us to come out of lockdown. Your children were never in a concerning situation. Please give us time to work with KSP to figure out our next steps.
Letcher Elementary and Middle School buses will be about 20 minutes late this afternoon. They were delayed this afternoon because a group of students on a field trip were delayed in returning to school.
Bus 2522, Rob Scheeler's bus will be about 15- 20 minutes later this morning. Bus 513 had mechanical issues this morning and Mr Scheeler is helping pick up the extra students. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Out of an abundance of caution due to the extreme heat and roof project, we will release MJP at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024. Thank you for your patience and understanding. The forecast is giving cooler temperatures next week and we will be further along with the roofing, so hopefully, this will be the last time we need to release early. We will monitor it closely.
Due to a water outage, Martha Jane Potter Elementary and Fleming Neon Middle Schools will be closed for Thursday, August 29, 2024. All other schools are on the regular schedule.
After checking building temperatures, the forecast, and with our roof company, MJP will also release at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 29, 2024. We wanted to get this information out to our parents for planning purposes and we appreciate your support and patience while dealing with this project. We want to be cautious and proactive. We will be far enough along with the roof project, that it should not be an issue after this week. We will monitor it closely to ensure that our students have the best possible learning environment.
