Letcher Elementary and Middle School buses will be about 20 minutes late this afternoon. They were delayed this afternoon because a group of students on a field trip were delayed in returning to school.
Bus 2522, Rob Scheeler's bus will be about 15- 20 minutes later this morning. Bus 513 had mechanical issues this morning and Mr Scheeler is helping pick up the extra students. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Out of an abundance of caution due to the extreme heat and roof project, we will release MJP at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024. Thank you for your patience and understanding. The forecast is giving cooler temperatures next week and we will be further along with the roofing, so hopefully, this will be the last time we need to release early. We will monitor it closely.
Due to a water outage, Martha Jane Potter Elementary and Fleming Neon Middle Schools will be closed for Thursday, August 29, 2024. All other schools are on the regular schedule.
After checking building temperatures, the forecast, and with our roof company, MJP will also release at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 29, 2024. We wanted to get this information out to our parents for planning purposes and we appreciate your support and patience while dealing with this project. We want to be cautious and proactive. We will be far enough along with the roof project, that it should not be an issue after this week. We will monitor it closely to ensure that our students have the best possible learning environment.

Scott Boggs' bus, #1622, will be running about 10-15 minutes late tomorrow morning; August 26th. Josh Webb and Herrick Hacker will split this bus route, adding onto their regular routes. Please be waiting in a safe area where they will be able to see you.
There is a downed tree and powerline on Little Cowan at this time. We are not sure what time it will be removed. Buses will not be able to travel through Little Cowan until it is cleared.

Hello, Class of 2028… We would like to remind you that Link Crew freshmen orientation activities take place tomorrow from 8:00-2:00 pm. We have lots of fun games and activities planned for you tomorrow morning, and you’ll meet your peer mentors. We will serve a catered lunch and then we will distribute schedules and lockers and give you an opportunity to tour the building. We are excited to meet you and have you join our Cougar Family.

This is a reminder for classified employees. Instructional Aides I and II need to check your emails for training dates and locations and that all CPR, SCM trainings will start at 8:00am. You will need to register for the KVEC Training online(a link was sent via email) and the bus will leave WWE at 7:00am.
Bus drivers training begins tomorrow morning at 8:00am. It has been moved to the vocational school due to no air conditioning at LCC.
Cafeteria workers training tomorrow has been relocated to the Lendell Smith Conference Room.
The Letcher County Central High School JROTC will be hosting the Louisville drone racing team on the top of the high school hill where the track is located from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM on Friday, July 19th. There will be demonstrations and hands on training. Everyone is welcome to come by and participate.
Letcher Promise Neighborhood will host an Art Showcase at the Farmers Market in Whitesburg this Saturday, June 29th from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. We will be under the blue tents near the red bridge. All students and families who participated in our painting, pottery, or creative writing events are invited to bring their canvases, pottery, poetry, and stories to share with family, friends, and the community. Pottery created on June 7th and June 18th will be on display and available for pickup.

Just a reminder, all children in Letcher County can receive a free breakfast and lunch everyday, Monday thru Friday, today thru July 5th. Pick up only from 11:30-1:00 at FNMS, LEMS, WWE. Dine in only is available at LCC and CES - breakfast is 8:00-9:00 and lunch is 11:30-1:00. Stop by the school closest to your home to receive your free breakfast and lunch.
Due to heat conditions the PRI will be canceling two upcoming events. The hike in Lily Cornett Woods scheduled for tomorrow 6/20 has been canceled. Also, the pickleball and volleyball tournaments scheduled for Friday 6/21 have been canceled.
PRI is hosting pottery classes tomorrow, Thursday, June 18th in the art room at Letcher Couty Central High School from 10:00 -12:00 and from 1:00-3:00. This is open to students and families. Lunch will be provided for the 10:00-12:00 class. In addition, there will be a Mindfulness Walk at Lilly Cornett Woods from 9:00-12:00. Lunch will be provided.
PRI is hosting pickleball and volleyball games tomorrow morning , June 14h at the LCCHS Tennis Courts from 9 am-12 pm. Food will be provided to everyone in attendance. In addition, there will be a spooky hike on the Pine Mountain Overlook Loop tomorrow evening beginning at 7:00 pm. There will be spooky tales (not so spooky tales for smaller children), lantern-making, and free books for all kids!
