Martha Jane Potter Elementary and Fleming Neon Middle School will be Closed on Thursday, January 4, 2024 due to a water outage. All other schools in the Letcher County Public Schools will operate on the regular schedule.
West Whitesburg Elementary's after school tutoring is canceled for today and tomorrow. It will resume after Christmas Break on January 9th.
Due to the weather forecast for later today, the Letcher County Schools will be dismissing at noon, today, December 18, 2023.

As eager as we are to get WWE back in their building, we want to make sure it is in the best condition it can be for our students. Because of that, Open House at West Whitesburg Elementary will be canceled for this evening. We are postponing the start date for West Whitesburg Elementary until Monday August 21. I apologize in advance and ask for your patience as we do the best job we can to make our building the best it can be.
Whitesburg Middle School will start tomorrow, Wednesday, August 16 at their regular schedule. They are ready and waiting to see their students.
Once again - WWE will begin on Monday, August 21 and WMS will begin tomorrow, August 16.

Tomorrow will be the first day of school for all students in Letcher County Public Schools with the exception of West Whitesburg Elementary and Whitesburg Middle School.
We have all been anxiously awaiting the opening of West Whitesburg Elementary School, and it is looking great. However, we want to put the finishing touches on the space and have decided to push the start date for WWE and WMS until Wednesday, August 16.
We appreciate your patience with us as we make final preparations to welcome back our Yellow Jackets.
All other Letcher County Schools will start tomorrow, Monday, August 14 at the regular start time. We hope you have a great 1st day of school!!

West Whitesburg Elementary will be having our end of the year awards day on Monday, May 22nd in the Letcher County Central High School auditorium.
Grades 3-5 will start at 9:00 AM. Doors will open at 8:45 AM.
Grades k-2 will start at 1:00 PM. Doors will open at 12:45 PM.
We will have a table outside the main doors of Letcher Central to sign in and get a visitor's tag.

WWE 5th grade parents, we are going to do something new this year with our 5th graders. We are going to do a 5th grade promotion during awards day on Monday at 9:00 AM. Students will go across the stage and receive a certificate. Nothing long or fancy. Students may dress in regular clothing.
